Getting started

Get Latch installed on your store and create your first password-protected product description in a few minutes. Latch is currently built for product page descriptions; we plan to support other areas later.

1. Install Latch

  • Go to the Latch app page and enter your Shopify store domain (e.g. my-store.myshopify.com).
  • Click Get started and complete the install flow in your Shopify admin.
  • Open Apps → Latch in your admin to reach the app.

2. Create your first lock

  1. In Latch, go to Password Locks and click Create New Lock.
  2. Fill in:
    • Name — e.g. "Product X full description" (for your reference).
    • Password — The password visitors will enter.
    • Content type — HTML content or a Liquid snippet reference.
    • Content — The HTML or snippet that appears after unlock (e.g. your full product description or extra details).
  3. Click Create Lock and copy the Lock ID (you’ll use it in the theme).

3. Add the block to your product page

  1. In Shopify admin go to Online Store → Themes → Customize.
  2. Open a product page (or the product template) where your product description is shown.
  3. Add the Latch Embed block in the area where you want the gated description (e.g. in or near the product description section).
  4. Paste the Lock ID you copied into the block settings.
  5. Save.

4. Test on the storefront

  • Use Preview and open a product that uses this template.
  • You should see the Latch lock (password field) where the block was added.
  • Enter the wrong password → error message.
  • Enter the correct password → your gated content appears and stays unlocked for that browser session.
